Xinyu has five universities: Xinyu College, Jiangxi Engineering College, Jiangxi Metallurgical Vocational and Technical College, Jiangxi Science and Technology Vocational College and Jiangxi New Energy Science and Technology Vocational College.

Xinyu College, located in Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province, is a full-time undergraduate college. It is the first batch of pilot institutions for the transformation and development of undergraduate colleges in Jiangxi Province to application-oriented universities, the first batch of pilot institutions for the integration and innovation base of production and education of the Ministry of Education, and the implementation institution for the comprehensive reform project of production and education cooperation of the Ministry of Education.

Xinyu Vocational College was founded in 1985. 1992 was renamed Xinyu College. In 2002, Xinyu Normal School and its affiliated primary schools merged with Xinyu Health School, and was upgraded to Xinyu College on March 20 10.

Xinyu College: Xinyu College is a full-time undergraduate college. It is the first batch of pilot universities in the Innovation Base of Industry-Education Integration of the Ministry of Education, the first batch of pilot universities in Jiangxi Province and the first batch of pilot universities in Jiangxi Province. It is located in Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province.

Jiangxi Institute of Engineering, located in Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province, is a full-time private undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education. It is a bachelor's degree awarding unit and an advanced unit for self-discipline and integrity construction of private non-enterprise units nationwide.

Jiangxi Vocational College of Science and Technology, founded in 1986, is located in Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province. In February, 2023, official website showed that the school planned to use more than 2,000 mu of land and was a full-time general college.
