Southwest University is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Chongqing Municipality. During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, the total scientific research funds of the school reached 3.69 billion yuan, and 7 key national R&D projects, 702 national natural science foundation projects, more than 252 national social science foundation projects and 4 major national cultural projects were approved. Patents were granted 1524, 99 new species of animals and plants were cultivated, and more than 600 monographs were published, which won the outstanding achievement award of scientific research in institutions of higher learning (humanities and social sciences) of the Ministry of Education.
