The college has established the training goal of practical talents, established the training system of bachelor of software engineering and master of software engineering, and established and improved the curriculum system of software engineering specialty. At present, there are five undergraduate majors: communication software, computer application software, digital media technology, embedded software and system, and e-government. At present, there are 780 students/kloc-0, including 448 undergraduates/kloc-0 and 332 master students.

The college cooperated with IT enterprises to set up a "software factory" as a demonstration practice base; Cooperate with Cisco to establish a "digital media engineering technology research platform"; Established 8 professional laboratories and 55 practice bases including Intel Embedded System Laboratory.

The college has a team of high-quality teachers. Full-time teachers are 2 1 person, including 5 professors and 7 associate professors. Part-time teachers on campus 1 person, 20 off-campus part-time teachers, and 12 foreign teachers have been hired successively. Part-time teachers in the school mainly come from the School of Information Science and Technology and the School of Mathematics and Computing Science, such as visiting professor Dr. Xu (Cisco Global Vice President) and Mr. He (Chief Technology Officer), part-time professor Dr. Xu Yingqing (Microsoft Asia Research Institute researcher) and Mr. He (Google China Engineering Research Institute Vice President), as well as CMM expert Dr. Ma, General Manager of Guangdong Global Village Computer System Co., Ltd. and Mr. ricas, Dean of Guangdong Computing Institute.

Since its establishment, the School of Software of Sun Yat-sen University has actively explored a new school-running mechanism in accordance with the guiding ideology of the Ministry of Education to build a model software college, and combined with the specific situation of Sun Yat-sen University, and has carried out extensive cooperation with famous foreign universities and well-known software enterprises at home and abroad, and introduced a new Industry-University-Research combination model; Facing the needs of the development of national economy and software industry, a group of high-level, international, applied, engineering, compound and innovative software engineering talents have been trained. Graduates are well received by employers, ranking in the forefront of the first batch of 35 national demonstration software colleges in China, and making contributions to the economic development in South China.
