The aviation department of Xiamen University specializes in aircraft design engineering, aerospace science and technology, aviation engineering and aerospace engineering.

The aviation education in Xiamen University began in April 1944, and it is one of the earliest universities in China to offer aviation specialty.

195 1 Xiamen University Aviation Department merged into Tsinghua University Aviation Department.

1952 merged with the aviation departments of other schools to form Beijing Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (now Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics).

1994 at the request of Xiamen municipal government, Xiamen University resumed aviation education to meet the needs of local economic construction.

On April 6, 2008, the Department of Aviation of Xiamen University was reopened and unveiled.
