Tianjin University, called Tianda for short, is located in Tianjin. It is the first batch of national key universities and vice-ministerial universities directly under the Ministry of Education. It is one of the first batch of "Class A universities of world-class universities", the first batch of "21Project" and "985 Project" key universities, and one of the pilot universities of China Academy of Engineering and Ministry of Education 10 engineering education reform. It has been selected into the national "Strong Foundation Plan", "20 1 1 Plan", "KLOC-0/1Plan", "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan", the national innovation experiment plan for college students, the national innovation and entrepreneurship training plan for college students, the national postgraduate project of building high-level universities, and the new engineering research and practice project. National College Students' Cultural Quality Education Base, the first batch of demonstration universities in China to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education, one of the eight old architecture institutes, and the founding members of China-ASEAN Alliance of Engineering Universities and China-China-Europe Alliance of Science and Technology Innovation Universities.

Tianjin University was originally named Beiyang University. Its predecessor was 1895, the "Beiyang University Hall" approved by Emperor Guangxu, and Sheng Xuanhuai was the first inspector of the school. It is the first modern university in China. Since its establishment, Beiyang University has been studying western learning comprehensively and systematically, imitating the American university model. 195 1 Beiyang University merged with Hebei Institute of Technology and changed its name to Tianjin University.
