In the latest ranking of National University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 2022, Beihang University ranked first, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics ranked second, Northwestern Polytechnical University ranked third, Harbin Institute of Technology ranked fourth, Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics ranked fifth, and Beijing Institute of Technology ranked sixth.

Beihang University, referred to as Beihang University, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China. Ranked among the world's first-class universities, 21Project and 985 Project are key universities, and selected for Everest Plan, 201Plan and 168 Project.

The National New Engineering Research and Practice Project, the National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Plan, the National College Students' Innovation Experiment Plan, the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform Demonstration College and the Strong Foundation Program Pilot College are members of the International Astronautical Federation, the China-Europe Elite University Alliance, the Spanish University Alliance of China, the Sino-Russian Engineering University Alliance, the Planetary Science Alliance of China University and the China Artificial Intelligence Education Association.

Beihang University was founded in 1952, formerly known as Beihang University. It was formed by the merger of Tsinghua University, Beiyang University, Xiamen University and Sichuan University, and was renamed Beihang University in April 1988.
