Xi University of Technology, founded in 1955, is a military supporting project of the key construction project of the National First Five-Year Plan 156. It is the only university in northwest China with a complete master's and doctoral training level, and it is also the station setting unit of postdoctoral research mobile station. The school is a member of the national "seven sons of military industry" and one of the founders of B8 Collaborative Innovation Alliance.

Today, the school is a high-level university jointly established by Shaanxi Provincial People's Government, State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, China Ordnance Industry Group and China Ordnance Equipment Group. It has passed the national military standard quality management system certification and has the qualification of weapons and equipment manufacturing. A large number of achievements have been applied to key areas of national defense equipment.

Six majors are national majors, nine majors are provincial majors, 12 majors are selected as national first-class undergraduate majors, 22 majors are selected as provincial first-class undergraduate majors, 6 majors are listed in the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan", and 14 majors have passed the engineering education certification.
