American middle school curriculum
The courses students study are divided into compulsory courses and elective courses. Compulsory courses include four categories: first, literature, including language foundation, oral and communication, writing, American literature, world literature, poetry, drama, rhetoric editing, news, etc. The second is mathematics, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, computers and so on. The third is science, including physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, earth science and so on. Fourth, social sciences, including American government and citizens, American history, world history, economy, current affairs, geography, psychology, American geography, world geography and sociology. Elective courses include physical education, music (including singing, general theory of musical instruments and music), computer, environmental science, sewing, health, foreign languages and so on. The study time of elective courses each semester is half a year or half a semester. In senior high school, whether they want to go to college or work after graduation, students have different graduation requirements in course study. Take Grady High School in Atlanta as an example. If students want to apply for a university, they must meet the following requirements in course study: four academic years of literature, including one year of American literature; Four academic years of mathematics; Science has four academic years, including one year for physics and one year for biology; Sociology is three years and one semester; One semester of health, one year of physical education, one year of art or technology classes, and two years of foreign languages must be the same language. For example, you have studied French for one year and Spanish for another, which doesn't count. Students either study French for two years or Spanish for two years. Most schools have these three second foreign languages: French, Spanish and Latin. The nearby North Atlanta High School has a cooperative relationship with a high school in Beijing, so Chinese is one of the elective courses, and the international teaching project is the magnet project of that school. Magnet means magnet. As the name implies, the magnet project is a learning project that attracts you like a magnet. If students don't want to go to college, but want to go to work directly after graduating from high school, then the requirements for course study are: four academic years of literature, including one academic year of American literature; Mathematics has four academic years, of which algebra 1 (algebra 1) has one academic year; Four academic years of science, including one year of material science and one year of biological science; Sociology for three academic years, including one semester of American history, world geography, world history, economy and citizenship; One year in physical education class; One year of foreign language and four years of technical/vocational preparation. If students think your own course is too simple, they can ask the school to upgrade, and they can take AP (Advanced Placement) course at the highest. AP course is a university course, and both lectures and homework are completely in accordance with the requirements of university standards. There are some conditions for applying for AP courses. Take math class as an example. Mathematics is divided into ordinary classes and accelerated mathematics classes. If you are in an ordinary class, you must transition from an ordinary class to an accelerated class through Xiaqiao before you can apply for AP courses. If you have been in the regular class and have not been promoted to the fast class, then you can only go to high school mathematics for four years. If you are promoted to the fast class, in the second year of high school, you can take the fast math class and the AP Stat (University Statistics) class at the same time. There are various math AP courses for you to choose from in the last year of high school. If you haven't participated in AP Stat, you can participate in this. If so, you can take one semester's college calculus (AP calculus AB) or one year's college calculus (AP calculus BC). In addition to the above-mentioned mathematics AP courses, the school also has AP courses such as information technology, marketing, economics, history, music and art. After completing the AP course, students apply to take the AP course exam held by the university Committee every May. After passing the exam, American universities will recognize the credits of these courses. Taking college courses in high school can shorten students' time in college and save some tuition fees. The more AP courses students take, the higher the probability of choosing a top-ranked prestigious school. Teaching students in accordance with their aptitude gives them a stage to show themselves.
