The word sophomore has some origins. As the root, soph means wisdom or wisdom, and more=moros means stupidity.

I'll give you two words for reference: philosophy: phil means "love", and love wisdom derives the meaning of "philosophy".

Idiot: Fool, fool, more serious than idiot. Idiot refers to medical idiot.

Sophomore means "smart fool". Freshman is stupid, sophomore can't see progress.
