The natural features of the Rio Grande.
From the source of the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado, the Rio Grande flows 282 kilometers (65,438+075 miles) southeast and south in Colorado, continues south through New Mexico for about 756 kilometers (470 miles), and then flows southeast in Chihuahua, Abela, Nuevo Leó n and Tamaulipas in Texas and Mexico.

The main tributaries of the Rio Grande are pecos, Devil, Chama and Perco. Mexico has the Conchos, rio salado and San Juan rivers. The flood peak may occur in any month from April to 65438+ 10. Due to the melting of snow in the upper reaches and occasional thunderstorms, flood peaks often appear in May or June, while high water levels usually appear in June or September due to summer rainstorm in the lower reaches. It is estimated that the average annual storage capacity of the Rio Grande is about 3.2 billion cubic meters (2.6 million feet). Before the Falcon Dam was built on the upper reaches of Rio Grande in 1953, about 1/3 flowed into the Gulf of Mexico. Now the average flow of this river is about 85 cubic meters per second (3,000 cubic feet per second).
