1. Sheng Yuan
Due to the low comprehensive arrangement of Baptists, the enrollment conditions for one-year teaching in some majors are really low. Therefore, the overall student environment is not as good as HKUST. Compared with other Baptist majors, the School of Communication has the best students. Basically, they are well-known domestic universities or overseas universities such as 2 1 1 985, with IELTS 7+, good oral English and many scholars. More than half of them are former graduates, and many of them have worked in 4A advertising companies or public relations industries for several years. Part-time locals are great people with many years of experience in related industries. According to local people, the undergraduate course of Baptist University is also the highest enrollment score of Communication College. It's an old brand after all. Most of ijs and bj are undergraduate journalism-related majors, and half are non-media-related majors, which is also related to the curriculum of Baptist Communication.
2. Courses
English teaching. Four last semester and five next semester.
need
Communication has three compulsory courses. The theoretical basis of communication is about communication and various theories related to communication. Research and development. Comm research and communication methods belong to social sciences, so these research methods are basically similar to those of other social sciences, such as psychology and sociology, but taking communication research as an example, it may be more difficult for students who have not been exposed to research methods and statistical knowledge before. All three compulsory courses are academic, and sometimes students from Mphil (Research Master) will take them together. The compulsory courses of media management are business and management, and some compulsory courses are taken with students from business schools.
take as an elective
Comm has six elective courses. You can take courses of this major or ijs and Film Academy. So there are five directions, communication research, news, public relations, advertising and marketing. Please position yourself for the future employment direction before choosing courses, and have a clear aim. Mm can take some elective courses in business schools. You can choose projects next semester, similar to graduation thesis. Comm's project can offset a course, but only one person can do it. Mm can offset two doors, or it can be a group of six people. In addition, the Communication College also arranges more than one study trip every year and goes to different places every year. This year, it is Taiwan Province Province, London and Prague & Paris, Taipei, Tokyo and Las Vegas. The school provides some subsidies.
3. Teachers
The required teachers have nothing to say, they are all great scholars in communication and news research. Mainland teachers with many years of overseas experience mainly have intermediate or above titles. They teach English and homework English in class, but they can discuss with the teacher in Mandarin after class. It is still recommended to do your homework before choosing a course, because each teacher focuses on different fields. In addition to the teachers in our school, the teachers of elective courses are all visiting lecturers with rich experience in the fields they teach, such as Zhang Shaowei and CK Liu; A person who is very popular in every news class; For example, Lin Peili, a famous cultural critic in Hong Kong; For example, Royce Yuan; , a former Ogilvy & Mather director who was praised as a male god by his classmates; Estee Lauder, former marketing director of L 'Oré al Group, is also known as the God of Men's Leifuke; Not to mention the well-known LUQIU LUWEI. There are some guests who are more watery, so I won't mention them here. If you have a younger brother or sister who wants to know the situation, you can write privately.
do homework
Thesis, demonstration and examination are the main compulsory courses. Some papers that need research methods and data collection may be a bit difficult for students without any research background. (Chinese mainland's undergraduate thesis is a fool. ) reading is large, with an average of 50 pages a week, which is not recommended reading. Elective courses are mainly group projects/demonstrations. As mentioned above, many students have many years of experience, so sometimes they learn more from working with such people than from class. Objectively speaking, the amount of homework is still very large, and I feel that it has not stopped since the second week.
Step 5: Way out
I entered school in September, and there was basically no class in May, plus Christmas/Resurrection/Spring Festival and holidays in July, July and August.
A. Continue your studies, Master of Arts/Doctor of Philosophy.
As far as I know, in the last session, there were still many seniors and sisters who applied for doctors, or they did RA for a while and applied for doctors. It may still be difficult for a horse to apply for the Expo directly. If you are interested in academics, please pay attention to every required paper, work hard at gpa, have a good relationship with the teacher (shua), and choose projects next semester. If you can go all the way to Hong Kong to study, the treatment is still very good.
B. Working in Hong Kong
First of all, if you want to stay and work in Hong Kong, in a sense, learning fluent Cantonese is much more important than your academic performance in graduate school. If you go to traditional media, it's really just glamorous. Freedom of speech? Good media environment? When it comes to finding a job, there is only one fact before us. Wages in Hong Kong's traditional media industry are very low. The salary of paper reporters is around 1w, while that of Phoenix TV is only 1w2. Not to mention the wind and rain, this figure is basically the bottom line for survival in Hong Kong. You know, almost all the dishwashers in restaurants are 9k,1w. Go to an advertising company/public relations company. In fact, the environment in Hong Kong may not be better than that in Beijing and Shanghai. Moreover, because of acclimatization, it is difficult for mainlanders to do creative work, even Cantonese. When I first came to Hong Kong, almost 80% of my classmates wanted to stay and work. Half a year later, I spent my honeymoon in Hong Kong. The crowded living environment, the language barrier and the low salary in the media industry ... have dropped to 20%. Some students come to Hong Kong just to stay, and all kinds of students who skip classes look for jobs to study Cantonese for internships. I also heard that some seniors sell insurance and teach Mandarin in order to stay in Hong Kong. I have also heard that there are companies that specialize in recruiting graduate students who can't speak Cantonese in the Mainland and have no other choice but to write soft articles on public relations. The salary is very low.
C. Going back to work in the Mainland
Finally, back to the problem of how difficult it is to apply for Mphil and whether MA can increase its value. Mphil is more difficult to apply than MA mainly because there are fewer students and fewer scholarships. However, Mphil focuses on research and basically does not attend classes. If the horse pays the teacher's tuition, then mphil pays the boss to help. In some places, mphil is also called an associate doctor. Some doctors don't want to study for a year or two, or they can't send papers and graduate, so they apply for graduation from mphil.
So the answer is clear. If you are interested in academics, you want to continue your Ph.D. or go to a scientific research institution and apply for Mphil. If you just want to work in the mainland with a postgraduate diploma, most employers can't see MPhil &;; The difference between horses and horses & when taking an examination of civil servants or institutions; Mphil should be treated equally.
As for whether it can add value, it really depends on the individual. Also, choosing courses will directly affect whether you can get your tuition and study experience back. Please do your homework in advance! ! If you are a non-media major, but your English is good and you are interested in the media, then the master of communication at Baptist University is very suitable for you.
