Mississippi State University is located in Starkville, Mississippi. On February 28th, 1878, it was founded by the Mississippi legislature, originally named Mississippi College of Agriculture and Machinery, to meet the needs of cultivating "agriculture, horticulture, mechanical technology ..... but not excluding other scientific and classical research, including military science".
