Hebei University of Technology is located in Tianjin, a municipality directly under the Central Government of China. It was jointly established by People's Republic of China (PRC) Ministry of Education, Hebei Provincial People's Government and Tianjin Municipal People's Government. It is a national "2 1 1 project" key construction university, affiliated to the national world-class discipline construction university in Hebei Province, and selected as the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions.

Hebei University of Technology was formerly Beiyang Technical School, which was founded in 1903. Later, it was renamed Zhili Higher Industrial School, Zhili Higher Industrial School, Zhili Public Industrial College, Hebei Provincial Industrial College, Hebei Provincial Industrial College, Hebei Provincial Industrial College and Hebei Institute of Technology.
195 1 merged with Beiyang university to form Tianjin university, 1958 resumed reconstruction, 1962 merged with Tianjin institute of technology and changed its name to Tianjin institute of technology, 197 1 changed its name to Hebei institute of technology, and 1995 changed its name.
