2022 EEEFellow list announced! Three scholars from Tsinghua University are on the list.
Beijing time1October 24th 165438, the complete list of IEEEFellow in 2022 was officially announced, and 265 scholars were selected this time.

In the list of IEEE Fellows in 2022, * * * there are 3 1 China scholars, among whom three are from Tsinghua University, namely Wang Yu, director of the Department of Electronic Engineering in Tsinghua, Zheng Yang, associate professor of Tsinghua Institute of Software, and Dai Linglong, associate professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering in Tsinghua.

Let's take a look at what IEEE and IEEEFellow are.

IEEE is the abbreviation of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, which can be read as "ItripleE". 1963, IEEE was formed by the merger of American Institute of Electrical Engineers and Institute of Radio Engineers, and later developed into the largest professional technical organization in the world.

It is understood that at the beginning of the merger, IEEE had about 6.5438+0.5 million members, of which 93% were in the United States. By 1984, the membership is about 250,000, with Americans accounting for 80%. According to Wikipedia, as of 202 1, IEEE has more than 400,000 members in 160 countries and regions, of which more than 50% are from outside the United States, and American members are no longer in the majority.

In addition to being an academic institution, IEEE is also responsible for the standard-setting of related disciplines, and more than 800 technical standards are formulated and revised every year.

IEEE has been widely recognized by the global technical community and technical professionals all over the world. The number of documents published in their own related fields can account for nearly one-third of similar international documents.

The vision of IEEE is to help promote the development and progress of education and technology in electrical, electronic, communication, computer and other projects and similar disciplines.

What is IEEEFellow?

IEEE members are roughly divided into five grades: student members, affiliated members, member members, senior members and researchers. There is also a life-long member, which requires that the member must be over 65 years old, and the sum of age and membership time is equal to or greater than 100.

It can be seen that IEEEFellow is almost the highest level of IEEE membership. It's hard to get this title. After many reviews, the IEEE Council finally decided to select about 300 people from hundreds of thousands of members to issue IEEEFellow certificates and medals every year, and the number of people should not exceed one thousandth of the total number of IEEE members. These people are professional and technical personnel who have made outstanding achievements in their respective fields. IEEEFellow also enjoys a high reputation in the world.

At present, there is no exact Chinese translation of IEEEFellow. Some people proposed to translate it into "academician or academician", but it was not widely recognized. In fact, the word Fellow is very common in the United States, and many institutions regard it as the title of the elder members.

This time, Tsinghua University Wang Yu was elected as an academician in 2022, mainly because of her outstanding contribution to accelerator design in a specific field.

Wang Yu, a post-80s student, completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Tsinghua University. After graduating from Dr. Tsinghua in 2007, he has been staying in school. At present, he is the vice president of Tsinghua University Institute of Information Science and Technology, a long-term professor and head of the Department of Electronic Engineering. He is also the first director of the Department of Electronic Engineering in Tsinghua University. At the same time, Wang Yu is also a member of ACMSIGDA Executive Committee and the only technical committee member of ACMFPGA in Asia Pacific.

Tsinghua University official website shows that Wang Yu has been engaged in the research of smart chips, energy-saving circuits and systems for a long time, and has published more than 3 10 papers, which have been cited by Google for more than 10900 times.

Wang Yu now leads the Nano Integrated Circuit and System Laboratory of Tsinghua University Energy Saving Computing Group. NICS-EFC is devoted to the research of energy-saving circuits and system design methods in AI scene, including multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithm, efficient and robust deep learning system, domain-specific acceleration and multi-agent system.

NICS-EFC's projects include comparison of neural network accelerators, indoor multi-robot exploration with limited communication, modular NAS research framework aw_nas, multi-agent strategy algorithm MappoSystem, and simulation platform MNSIM for neuromorphic computing system based on memristor.

While achieving outstanding academic achievements, Wang Yu is also actively trying to industrialize academic achievements. 20 16 Wang Yu and his student Yao song and others jointly founded the artificial intelligence chip company Shen Jian science and technology. Within two years, they have received investment from many companies, including Xilinx, MediaTek, Ant Financial and Samsung. 20 18 Shen Jian technology was acquired by Xilinx.

Another post-80s scholar, Yang Zheng, won the IEEE Fellow Prize in 2022 for his contribution to wireless positioning and sensing technology.

Zheng Yang, also from Tsinghua University, is an associate professor at the School of Software Engineering and a member of the Beijing National Information Science and Technology Research Center. In 2006, he received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Tsinghua University Computer Department, and a doctor's degree in engineering from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 20 10.

Research fields include Internet of Things, industrial Internet, positioning and perception, group intelligence perception, smart city, blockchain and so on. He has published more than 0/00 Chinese and English papers and 3 academic monographs, and won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award.

Zheng Yang's representative papers are: from RSSI to CSI: indoor positioning through channel response; Crowdsourcing indoor positioning based on smart phone; Improving the mobility of positioning ability: Overview of indoor wireless positioning based on inertial sensors: Research on the perceptual motivation of floating people: Inferring the direction of movement by using commercial Wi-Fi in interactive games, etc.

It is worth mentioning that there were 282 people in the last issue of 202 1IEEEFellow, among whom 75 were China scholars, accounting for 26.6%. There are 83 China scholars in IEEEFellow this time, accounting for 3 1.3% of the total number, which is slightly higher than last time.
