Birmingham University, one of the top 100 universities in the world, is a research-oriented public university located in Birmingham, the second largest city in Britain. Birmingham University ranked 89th in the American News World University in 2023 and 84th in the QS World University in 2024.

Birmingham University was granted a royal charter by Queen Victoria of England in 1900. This school is one of the "red brick universities" in Britain, and it is a member of Russell Group, Midland Innovation Alliance, Global Alliance for Advanced Research in Universities and Universitas 2 1. By the end of 2023, the school had 10 alumni and faculty members who had won the Nobel Prize.

School history

1900 On March 24th, Queen Victoria granted the Royal Charter, and the government received the bill from Birmingham University. On May 3rd, the same year, the Royal Charter came into effect.

In July of the same year, the Kasop family donated 25 acres (about 65,438+00 hectares) of land in Bournbrook, with Sir Charles Hawklov providing sponsorship funds and andrew carnegie, a steel tycoon and philanthropist donating money? 50,000 core buildings were built, and the campus was designed according to the campus planning of Cornell University. At this point, the first red brick university in Britain was born.

Joseph Chamberlain and Sa Oliver Rhodes completed the transformation from Mei Sen University College to Birmingham University, and were also considered as the founders of Birmingham University. Joseph Chamberlain was the first superintendent of Birmingham University, and Sa Oliver Rhodes was the first president.

190 1 year, Sir William Ashley established the first business school in Britain (the predecessor of Birmingham Business School), and in 1902, he served as the dean and the first professor of the college. Because Birmingham University was founded by local industrialists, and Birmingham owned a large proportion of commercial wealth in Britain, the establishment of business schools became an urgent need for industry and commerce at that time, so the Royal Charter also included the establishment of business schools.
