Arriving in England for the first time
Two years ago, with many expectations and longings, I embarked on a plane to England and started my study abroad career. The first is a month of language school study. It's still very helpful for me to come a month early. Because it really takes time to settle down and get familiar with the environment at first. There are several things that must be done:
1. Open a bank account. 2. Go to the police station to register. 3. Be familiar with the urban environment. If you don't live in a dormitory, find a house as soon as possible.
I rented a house in the local area, the landlord is very good, the house is not far from the school, about 10- 15 minutes away, and the price is moderate, about 50 pounds a week.
A month later, the first semester of the master's course began. Specialized courses are arranged very tightly. There are classes from 9 am to 5 pm every day, and there is a self-study week every two weeks. Self-study week is full of homework. At first, I was a little uncomfortable with the language and courses. Every day after class, I usually study in the library until 9 pm, and then go home to cook. After dinner, I will go to my foreign roommate's room for coffee and chat, then read a book and go to bed at 2 am. The self-study week is very busy, and the homework every week is very tense. More than a semester's hard work has paid off. When I got straight A's in the first half of the semester, I was really excited. One year later, when I was studying for my doctorate in Cambridge, I really felt the importance of this year's master's program, which benefited me a lot.
Doctor application
After the first half of the semester, the next semester will be much easier. At that time, I had the idea of studying for a doctorate. On the one hand, I feel that I haven't learned enough, on the other hand, I also feel that Britain's achievements in our major are really the first in the world, which is worth studying hard.
Then, I fumbled for the application, wrote a letter of recommendation from the teacher in the department here, and contacted the teachers in other schools in Britain. Application is a tiring process, and the only thing you can do is to keep in touch with your professional teachers. In fact, applying for a doctorate is to meet the right opportunity at the right time. The so-called right time is that the teacher you are looking for is definitely in urgent need of employment now, but there are projects in hand that no one is doing; The so-called suitable opportunity is to find a project that suits your background and make the teacher feel that you are qualified for this project. However, how to meet the right opportunity at the right time can only rely on yourself to contact the teacher desperately. Anyway, during the whole application process, I wrote emails to almost all teachers in the same direction in the top 20 schools in the UK. In this process, after being rejected countless times, I also got many opportunities. Finally, after the interview, I got the opportunity to go to Cambridge to study PhD. Personally, I think I got this opportunity not only because of my previous research background and good master's degree, but also because my enthusiasm for sending emails and calling touched my current tutor.
Education experience
Among the China students in our Master of Science class, some failed all the courses, some idled around all day without doing their homework, and some didn't know anything in class. But what I admire most about British education is that it gives you room to learn and develop. As long as you work hard, you are really interested in your major, and you will have many opportunities.
The teachers who teach students are all first-class teachers. Among our teachers, several are the authorities of the whole industry and the inventors of many theories. With such a teacher in class, you can really learn a lot as long as you are willing to listen attentively and study the handouts attentively. As long as you go to the teacher during recess, the teacher will always answer you patiently. Even if the class time is not enough, he will ask you out alone and then discuss with you. The teacher thinks this is his job, this is his duty, and he must finish it.
