FISU World Universiade (English) is sponsored by the International University Sports Federation, including the Summer Games and the Winter Games. Held once every two years, only for college students and people who have graduated less than two years (age 17-28).

The Universiade began at 1959, and its predecessor was the International Universiade, which has been held for 30 times since 1959. All the specified events of the Universiade are Olympic events, and the competition management is implemented by international individual sports organizations in accordance with Olympic standards. It is the world comprehensive sports meeting, which is second only to the Olympic Games in scale, and is known as the "Little Olympics". From July 28th to August 8th, 2023, the 3rd1Summer Universiade was held in Chengdu, Sichuan.

By 2004, the World Universiade had been held for 22 sessions. China participated in some track and field events of the first Universiade from 65438 to 0959. From the second session to the eighth session 196 1, China did not send a delegation to participate. From 65438 to 0975, China was accepted as a full member of the International University Sports Federation. From the 9th session of 1977, China sent a delegation to participate in all previous World University Games.

1957, in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the French National Union of Students, the International Universiade and the International Cultural Festival were held in Paris. With the unanimous consent of the representatives of 30 countries attending the meeting, it is decided to hold a world-wide college sports competition on a regular basis in the future, named "World University Games", which will be held every two years in principle.
