Yang (1908-2003.1.1)

Jiangsu Nanhui (now Shanghai) people. German linguist.

1925 was admitted to Tsinghua University Foreign Languages Department. 1929, he was the first graduate from Tsinghua to Tsinghua to study in the German Department of the Graduate School of Harvard University. 193 1 year obtained the master of arts degree. 193 1 to 1935 works in the Germanic Language Department of Heidelberg University, Germany. After returning to China, he taught in Tsinghua University, Changsha Temporary University and Kunming Southwest United University. 1952 national faculty adjustment, he was appointed German professor in the Department of Western Languages and Literature in Peking University. He used to be the director of German Teaching and Research Section of Peking University Western Languages Department and the director of German Teaching and Research Association. He once advocated organizing all forces inside and outside the school to compile the German-Chinese Dictionary collectively.

Yang is mainly engaged in the study of German classical literature, and has translated the theoretical works of classical writers Lessing, Goethe and romantic writer Friedrich schlegel. Among them, the study of German poet Holderlin has made outstanding achievements. I am proficient in English, French, Latin and Greek, as well as Italian, Russian and Spanish. At the same time, he has made great achievements in music, aesthetics and philosophy.

Editor-in-chief of German-Chinese Dictionary, and author of Translation of Tao Yuanming's Poems (English), including On the Beauty of Music and Aesthetic Theory. The main papers are holderling's classical metrical poems, holderling and Tao Yuanming's view of nature, and on the establishment of German classical literature.
