South China University of Technology, referred to as "South China University of Technology", is located in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, directly under the Ministry of Education. It is a national key university determined by the Ministry of Education and the Guangdong Provincial People's Government. Ranked among the national "double first-class", "2 1 1 project" and "985 project", and was selected into the discipline innovation and intelligence introduction plan, excellent engineer education and training plan and excellent legal talent education and training plan of colleges and universities.

South China University of Technology is one of the first universities to build a "future institute of technology". It is a comprehensive research university that is good at engineering, combines science and engineering, and develops harmoniously in management, economics, literature, law and medicine.

South China University of Technology is based on the engineering departments and majors of Sun Yat-sen University, South China United University Institute of Technology, Lingnan University Institute of Technology and Guangdong Institute of Technology, and was transferred from some engineering departments and majors of Hunan University, Zhonghua University in Wuchang, Wuhan Jiaotong University, Nanchang University and Guangxi University.

The school is divided into three campuses. Wushan Campus is located in Shipai College District, Tianhe District. The University Town Campus is located in Guangzhou University Town, Panyu District; Guangzhou International Campus is located in Innovation City, Panyu District.

As of July, 20 18, South China University of Technology has 25 first-level disciplines authorized by doctoral degree, 43 first-level disciplines authorized by master degree, 2 first-level disciplines, 3 national key disciplines in two disciplines, 2 national key (cultivation) disciplines and 24 first-level disciplines in Guangdong Province.

Professional Master 17, including Doctor of Engineering (2 fields), Master of Engineering (25 fields), Master of Architecture, Master of Business Administration (MBA, EMBA), Master of Management (MPA), Master of Landscape Architecture and Master of Law. By the end of 20 19 and 10, South China University of Technology had 3 1 postdoctoral research stations.

In June, 2020, official website showed that there were 10 disciplines in the school, including engineering, materials science, chemistry, agricultural science, physics, biology and biochemistry, computer science, environmental science and ecology, clinical medicine and social science, which ranked in the top 1% of ESI global rankings.
