Tsinghua University, which enjoys a good reputation at home and abroad, was originally located in Tsinghua Campus of the Royal Garden in Qing Dynasty. Originally called Tsinghua School, it was later renamed National Tsinghua University. After the founding of New China, it was officially named Tsinghua University.

The origin of Tsinghua University's name

The word "Tsinghua" originated from the poem "You" in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, including "gathering songbirds in one scene, Zhan Tsinghua in" ("Zhan" means "Shen"), which means "When the sun sets, songbirds return to the forest; The clear water color and gorgeous vegetation have been submerged in the twilight. " The original intention is to lament the passage of time.

Later, the word "Shui Mu Tsinghua" was introduced and given the meaning of "beautiful trees". Today, the plaque behind the I-shaped hall reads "Shui Mu Tsinghua".

Tsinghua Campus (now Changchun Garden), a royal garden, was built in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty and then abandoned. Xichun Garden was built in Kangxi period of Qing Dynasty, and then it was divided into two parts: near Spring Garden and Xichun Garden. Emperor Xianfeng's inscription for Xichun Garden was changed to "Tsinghua Campus".
