After reading "36 Days, My American Education Journey" 1 Li Xigui's "36 Days, My American Education Journey", from a unique perspective, as a teacher in China, after 36 days in the classroom in the United States, he felt the educational methods in different cultural backgrounds, and he was often surprised by the obvious and imperceptible similarities and differences between eastern and western education. So what I saw, heard, thought and realized on the American campus was explained with a pen and shared with us.
Because of the different educational ideas and ways between China and the West, I just want to talk about my real feelings.
"Is the student the master of the class?" Does this question need to be answered? In China, this well-known saying has been echoed on campus for more than 20 years, and even became our principled slogan, so that today, everyone feels it is unnecessary to mention it again. In China's classroom records and comments, Mr. David, a straightforward American colleague, asked: Are students the masters of the classroom? Because he found one detail after another that is contrary to the fact that students are the masters of the classroom: the cameraman only takes pictures of teachers and rarely takes pictures of students. The teacher speaks with subtitles, but the students don't; Students need the teacher's approval to stand up and sit down when answering questions; Most of the energy of the teacher's comments in the comment class is concentrated on the teaching teacher. They care about the gestures and smiles of the lecturers in class, but seldom pay attention to the activities of the students. ...
If students are the masters of the classroom, are they still so cautious and so neglected in their own "territory"? If I hadn't seen Mr. Li's real educational trip to the United States, I thought that we could create a harmonious and warm teaching atmosphere, reflect students' dominant position in teaching, and regard students as the masters of the classroom, because we have always said so and done so. I didn't expect foreigners to pay so much attention to details and students' sense of ownership, which surprised me. When we evaluate the success of a class, we often comment on the teacher's teaching, pay little attention to the students' learning, and only pay attention to how the teacher should teach, which links are divided and which are the key points. For students, we just need to give full play to our leading role, guide them step by step on our designed journey, then go straight to the destination without any mistakes, and finally make the final decision with the students' grades. This is what I have seen and heard, and it is also the education in China along the way.
Because of the different educational methods between China and the West, we can't compare anything. For example, students need the teacher's permission to stand up or sit down in class. This is an indispensable part of China's educational etiquette, because our classroom is a large classroom with 50 or 60 students, which is far from being compared with small class teaching in the United States. If students don't mess around and there are no certain rules, classroom teaching will definitely not be normal.
Let's look at the campus of Columbia University. Next to the statue of Dewey, a great educator, there are not large photos of the presidents of Columbia University, but those excellent cleaners and doormen. Because "every post can create miracles and should be respected." In Columbia University, chefs can become experts, librarians can also become experts, and the campus is full of respect for "little people". When evaluating classes, Li Xigui also stressed that in addition to inviting experts to evaluate classes, some excellent American teachers must also be invited to participate. I didn't expect to be asked by my American counterparts, "Aren't primary and secondary school teachers experts?" . In their eyes, primary and secondary school teachers are experts. However, in the eyes of China people, education experts are those scholars who give lectures in educational science research institutes, those who give lectures in ivory towers in colleges and universities, and those who are full of knowledge and skills. If we little people dare to call ourselves experts, we will be laughed at and think that we are a little crazy. No wonder Li Xigui was deeply touched. "For thousands of years, we have never been able to train our own education experts on campus, and teachers simply dare not have such an ideal." This is probably the difference between Chinese and foreign educational concepts.
I can't change anything, but I began to look at myself and think about education, trying to make this thinking closer to "people-oriented" education and trying to be a good teacher.
In April, 20xx, at the invitation of the Education College of Columbia University, Li Xigui, as a visiting scholar, analyzed the classroom with the teachers here and collided with educational wisdom. During his thirty-six days in the United States, Li Xigui almost greedily looked for every opportunity to learn, and hungrily absorbed educational nutrition from different cultural backgrounds. After returning home, he recorded what he saw, heard, thought and realized truthfully and published this book.
Looking through the contents of this book, the titles of novels will come into our eyes, such as Home-cooked Meal and French Dinner, why students are forced to squeeze into the toilet during recess, exam-oriented education is not a scourge, saying "no" to strong students, waiting for their souls and so on. Seeing so many new nouns, I believe everyone's desire to read will arise spontaneously.
When it comes to American education, the first impression in our minds is that American education is easy, teachers teach easily and students learn easily. American teachers are far less dedicated and responsible than our teachers. However, after careful investigation, Li Xigui found that primary and secondary school students in the United States have the same learning burden, and they all have to cope with various exams. American teachers' passion and love for education, diligence and persistence will also make us respect.
There is no profound theory in this book, only the real feelings of an educator every day, with undisguised, unpretentious and unpretentious language and appropriate illustrations, which makes people immersive. With a keen eye, Li Xigui crossed the grand education system of the United States, focused on one specific detail after another, and compared the differences of basic education between China and the United States, which provided an excellent perspective for China educators to understand the essence of education between China and the United States.
After reading "36 Days, My American Education Journey", I deeply admire the educator Li Xigui. From his books, we can not only understand the ideas and some specific modes of operation of western developed education, but also see the delicacy and spirituality we lack in education and feel the dawn of China's future education. At the same time, it also gave me some insights into my 24-year education.
Since I stepped into kindergarten, I have known that it is not easy to be a kindergarten teacher, and it is even more difficult to be a kindergarten teacher who loves children. With the development of society, people's requirements, level and quality of preschool teachers are getting higher and higher: "more determined, more work, sweeter mouth, broader vision, kind-hearted, more vivid brain use, more real smile, deeper feelings, faster action, softer speech, smaller temper and fewer reasons." This twelve-character policy reveals the basic requirements for being a qualified kindergarten teacher. How to be a good kindergarten teacher who loves children? Love children with sincerity, and touch them with happiness.
As a kindergarten teacher, I should first love and respect every child. Go into the child's childlike world and learn about each child's personality characteristics, emotional world and family situation. Treat every child equally, make children like you, be willing to play with you, and study in a pleasant atmosphere. Pay attention to them all the time during the day. Even an encouraging look, holding hands and touching his head convey our love for our children. We also use more encouragement and praise to discover the advantages of children. It is also an affirmation to give children timely evaluation and establish their self-confidence in educational activities. For example, Zhezhe's children's paintings are not very good. Every time they are painted, they are dirty and the colors are not bright enough.
Once, he drew a flower tree. He painted all kinds of flowers on the flower tree, and each flower was painted with the same bright color. It stands to reason that our middle class requires them to learn gradient colors, but for his sake, I lowered my requirements and can paint them evenly with the same bright colors. Zhezhe's flower tree is brighter than before, and the picture is clean. I gave him two five-pointed stars, but I didn't expect to cry with joy. I went back to my seat and told my companion: I, as soon as grandma came in after school, he ran to tell her the good news. "Grandma, I got two five-pointed stars today." Grandma praised him. Grandma and Zhezhe both laughed. Now he paints carefully every time. Love is the "cornerstone" to establish a good relationship between teachers and children, the "golden key" to open the door to education and the "tonic" to promote the healthy growth of children. As kindergarten teachers in the new century, we should educate our children in many ways to make them develop physically and mentally healthily. Warming children's hearts with maternal love and facing every child with a sincere smile will surely build a "love" bridge with children.
I don't remember who once said, "if a child lives with criticism, he will learn to condemn it;" If a child lives in fear, he will worry; If a child lives with encouragement, he learns to be confident; If a child lives in a popular living environment, he learns to love others; If a child lives in friendship, he will feel what a wonderful world he lives in. "So, if a child lives in a happy environment? I think he must be in a happy mood. In the process of teaching, we are the foundation of creating a happy environment. Our every move, every word and deed, even a small look, is the source of children's happiness. For example, after dinner that day, I had a class and showed the children a story book under a dark tree. I was about to move the chair out when I said, "Find a dark place to sit down! ""But he just said, "I sat next to xu teacher today!" At that time, I quickly said, "OK, OK, OK." So he sat next to me reading a book. It turns out that the child doesn't even let go of such a little time and is willing to sit with the teacher. My children are happy with me, and it is my greatest happiness and satisfaction to associate with me.
I chose this career, and I will try my best. Let's take passion as the flag, youth as the note, and fight for a regretless youth!
