Yangzhou University is a key comprehensive university in Jiangsu Province, and it is the first university in China to run a combined school. It was formed by the merger of six universities including Yangzhou Normal College, Jiangsu Agricultural College, Yangzhou Institute of Science and Technology, Yangzhou Medical College, Jiangsu Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Jiangsu Business School on 1992.

The history of Yangzhou University can be traced back to Tongzhou Normal School and Tonghai Agricultural School (which later became a part of Nantong College) founded in 1902 by Mr. Zhang Jian, a famous industrialist and educator in modern times.

The former Jiangsu Agricultural College and Yangzhou Normal College were developed on the basis of the agricultural science of Nantong College and the literature and history of Tongzhou Normal School. The other four universities involved in the merger also have an independent history of about 60 years.

Yangzhou University is the first batch of doctoral and master's degree awarding units in China. There are 26 colleges, with more than 34,700 full-time undergraduates, more than 8,600 doctoral and master students, and more than 0,000 adult education students1/kloc-0. The school has 13 postdoctoral mobile stations,1/0/first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points and 44 first-level discipline master degree authorization points;

Postgraduate education covers twelve disciplines, such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, agriculture, engineering, medicine, management and art, and the school pays attention to the quality of talent training. Since 2002, four papers have won 100 national excellent doctoral dissertations, and five papers have been nominated for 100 national excellent doctoral dissertations.
