(China Geo University, Beijing)

In the 1990s, with the rapid development of China's national economic construction, the task of basic geological research focusing on1∶ 50,000 regional geological survey became increasingly arduous. In order to alleviate the shortage of high-level young and middle-aged technical talents in the regional survey team at that time, the newly promulgated industry standard General Rules for Regional Geological Survey (DZ/T00 1-9 1) was well implemented, and the quality of regional survey maps and the level of regional geological research were continuously improved. China Geo University (Beijing, Wuhan) was entrusted by the Administration and Education Department of the unit directly under the former Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources to recruit postgraduates majoring in regional geological survey and research, who graduated from 1996 and 1999 respectively. These graduate students have played an important role in improving the level of regional geological research and the quality of regional geological survey in China. The practice of recruiting master students by entrustment provided experience for China Geo University to recruit a large number of entrusted students, and also laid the foundation for China Geo University to recruit master students in engineering later.

First, the enrollment background

After the founding of New China, due to the needs of national economic and social development, China has successively carried out 1∶ 1 10000 and1∶ 200000 regional geological surveys, and the mapping methods adopted at that time were basically based on the methods of the Soviet Union. Some areas have also carried out1∶ 50,000 regional geological mapping, and the working method is also Soviet. With the development of geological science, geological science and geological mapping methods in Europe and America are at the international leading level. 1986, the former Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources initiated the project "Study on Geological Mapping Method of1∶ 50,000 Regional Geological Survey", which was listed as the 16th key scientific and technological project in the Seventh Five-Year Plan (No.860 16-02) to carry out granite, metamorphic rock and sedimentary rock1∶ in China. The guiding ideology and goal of the project research are: "to apply new theories, new ideas, new technologies and new methods in the field of contemporary geological science to regional geological survey and reform the traditional methods of regional mapping." On the basis of fully drawing lessons from and absorbing foreign advanced mapping methods and our own research results, we choose typical experimental areas for mapping practice and research, break through the technical difficulties of current geological mapping methods, summarize and create a set of geological mapping methods suitable for granite, metamorphic rock and sedimentary rock areas with China characteristics, so as to fill a new generation of geological maps, catch up with and reach the advanced level in the world, and further improve the level and level of regional geological research in China. "After four years of extensive and in-depth research and special practice in typical areas, a set of1∶ 50,000 geological mapping method system suitable for sedimentary rocks, magmatic rocks and metamorphic rocks has been put forward. Its greatest feature is to closely combine the advanced theories of contemporary stratigraphy, sedimentology, magmatic petrology, metamorphic petrology, metamorphic geology and structural geology with1∶ 50,000 regional geological mapping. At the later stage of the project, this mapping method was popularized in the national1:50,000 regional mapping, and the former Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources formulated the1:50,000 regional geological survey according to the new mapping method-General Rules for Regional Geological Survey (1:50,000) (DZ/T00 1).

"Regional geological survey is a systematic and step-by-step comprehensive research method, including surface geological mapping, remote sensing geological interpretation, geophysics, geochemistry, isotope dating, rock and mineral testing, paleontology (including microfossils) identification, clarifying the basic characteristics of regional geological structure, strata, rocks and magmatic activities and their relationship with minerals, providing direction and basis for mineral survey, and providing a reliable basis for industrial and agricultural construction, scientific research and teaching. This is a professional and comprehensive work, which requires technicians to carry out regional surveys to have solid basic geological theory and strong comprehensive research ability, as well as more field work experience. However, in the early 1990s, some technicians who participated in the regional survey had poor technical level, weak grasp of basic geological theory, slow absorption of advanced theories and technologies at home and abroad, poor comprehensive research ability and little field practical experience.

At the end of the Seventh Five-Year Plan, the former Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources decided to complete the1∶ 50,000 regional adjustment of 2 million km2 by the end of the 20th century. It is quite difficult to accomplish this strategic goal. In order to achieve this goal, the former Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources increased its deployment. Not only did the provinces and provincial teams carry out1:50,000 regional adjustment, but some exploration teams also entered the ranks of regional adjustment and carried out1:50,000 regional adjustment. At the same time, some geological colleges also participated in the regional adjustment of1∶ 50,000. Fortunately, we entered the1∶ 50,000 regional geological survey from 1989. In order to master the geological mapping methods and management requirements as soon as possible, we often participate in the design review, field acceptance and completion acceptance of some1∶ 50,000 regional adjustment projects, and learn the new and old regional geological survey methods and regional geological survey management. At the same time, I also learned the basic situation of technical personnel involved in regional adjustment in these units.

Second, preparation and enrollment

1In the autumn of 992, the regional mediation directly under the Ministry held an exchange meeting on surveying and mapping experience of Qinling orogenic belt in Xi 'an, and I attended the meeting. During the dinner, when Chen Keqiang, former director of regional mediation of the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources, asked for my advice on the regional adjustment work at that time, I talked about two issues. First, the quality of the exploration team's maps in the regional adjustment of1∶ 50,000; Secondly, the quality of some technicians involved in1∶ 50,000 regional dispatching needs to be improved, especially the high-level young and middle-aged technicians are in serious shortage. Director Chen asked me if there was any way to solve the second problem. I said, "You pay, I will contribute, and train some high-level young and middle-aged technical talents, and then they will drive their teammates to gradually improve the quality of regional technical personnel." My explanation is: train the project technical director and surveying and mapping team leader of the regional dispatching team by entrusting master students. After graduation, these students returned to their original units to participate in the regional dispatching work of1:50,000, which can be the technical director of the regional dispatching project of1:50,000, the project leader, or even the regional dispatching quality management of the regional dispatching team. The problem is the training funds, but there are also ways to solve it. For example, the average cost of1∶ 50,000 regional geological survey funds allocated by the state to the Ministry of Geology and Minerals is 280,000 yuan/piece, while the geological survey funds allocated to geological colleges are 220,000 yuan/piece, and the remaining 60,000 yuan is deducted as labor expenses. Staff salaries deducted from the map funds of colleges and universities participating in regional adjustment (60,000 yuan per map) can be used as training funds. Please apply to the Ministry of Education to increase the number of trainees. Director Chen and I discussed the specific work steps and enrollment units on the spot. I propose that China Geo University (Beijing, Wuhan) is an institution directly under the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources, and it should enroll students first, and then expand to other institutions after the conditions are ripe (funds and enrollment places). China Geo University (Beijing) mainly recruits students from the north, while China Geo University (Wuhan) recruits students from the south. That night, Mr. Suoshutian and I attended the meeting and drafted the enrollment brochure and training plan. After returning to Beijing, I made a report to Professor Tan Yingjia, director of the Institute of Regional Geology, Professor Wu, director of the Department, and the Academic Affairs Office. They all agreed and supported the work. The Institute of Regional Geology and the Academic Affairs Office of China University fully discussed and revised the enrollment brochure and the postgraduate training plan entrusted by regional geological survey and research, and submitted an application for enrollment to the Education Department of our Ministry. During this period, Director Chen Keqiang went to the Education Department of the Ministry of Education and the directly affiliated bureau to do a lot of concrete work on entrusting students with enrollment and training funds.

After many efforts,1On June 20th, 1993, the Bureau directly under the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources and the Education Department jointly issued the Letter (No.052) on Recruiting Postgraduates in Regional Geological Survey and Research to the Bureau (Office) of Geology and Mineral Resources of all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government, which emphasized that with the rapid development of China's national economic construction, in order to alleviate the shortage of high-level young and middle-aged technical talents in the existing regional survey teams, The newly issued industry standard General Rules for Regional Geological Survey (1∶ 50000) (No.DZ/T001-91) has been well implemented, and the quality of regional survey maps and the level of regional geological research have been continuously improved to a new level. On the basis of the cost of four new maps (two in Beijing and two in Wuhan) added by the school after 1985, each map will be paid with an increase of 60,000 yuan (* * * 240,000 yuan). The two annexes of the document are the enrollment brochure and the regional geological survey and research direction entrusted master's training plan.

1June, 993 14

After the document was issued, the provinces began to register. Because the geological industry was the most depressed at that time, and it was summer, the technical backbones of regional survey all worked in the field, and the registration work ended in mid-September. After the materials arrived, China Geo University and the District Mediation Office conducted an audit together, and finally decided to enroll 8 students. They are two comprehensive geological teams in Qinghai, Gansu Institute of Geological Sciences 1, Gansu First Geological Team 1, Hebei Regional Geological Research Institute, Liaoning Regional Geological Survey Team 1 and Heilongjiang First Regional Geological Survey Team 1. These eight students are all boys, and they are all undergraduate graduates in the 1980s or correspondence undergraduate graduates. In the original unit, they have participated in the regional adjustment of1:50,000, and some have also participated in the regional adjustment of1:200,000. Most of them are the chief and deputy technical leaders of the project, and some are the leaders of the mapping group, who have rich experience in field geological survey. Students enter school in mid-September. 1993. At this point, the enrollment of the first postgraduate class of China Geo University has been successfully concluded.

Third, training.

1. Make up lessons

According to the training plan of regional geological research approved by the Education Department of the Ministry of Education (hereinafter referred to as the training plan), according to the curriculum arrangement, students should be enrolled in master's courses, but these students have not yet taken the master's entrance examination. At that time, the subjects of the master's entrance examination were foreign languages, mathematics 3, professional basic courses and professional courses. Because these students have been engaged in field geological survey for a long time, foreign languages and mathematics are unfamiliar because they have not been used for a long time, but their professional knowledge is completely useful. In order to ensure that these students can take the postgraduate entrance examination, we have adjusted the teaching plan, specially arranged the basic course teachers to make up for them in foreign languages and mathematics, and provided professional courses and professional basic courses counseling according to their needs. With the joint efforts of teachers and students for more than three months, these students successfully passed the master's entrance examination and truly obtained the qualification to study for a master's degree.

2. Mentor selection

The arrangement of tutors adopts the principle of combining students' choice and arrangement, and the factors to be considered include the majors that students want to focus on and the arrangement of practice places. At that time, China Geo University was carrying out1∶ 50,000 regional adjustment map * * 5 maps, of which1∶ 50,000 Xinglong map and Liudao River map in Hebei were in charge of two professors, Song Honglin and Li Zhizhong. In addition to the Mesoproterozoic sedimentary strata, there are metamorphic rocks in this area, and the structure is also very complicated. The other survey area is in the middle of Shandong Province, north of Yishui County,1:50,000 *** 3 map. Water, fire and deformation are complete in the area, and Yishu fault zone (Shandong section of Tanlu fault) passes through the survey area. I was responsible for the adjustment of these three maps, and hired Professor You Zhendong as a consultant. Associate professor and Mr. Su participated in the map work. Finally, Hebei Xinglong Project arranged three students, with two professors, Song Honglin and Li Zhizhong, as tutors. Shandong Yishui Project arranges 5 students, and the tutors are Professor You Zhendong, Associate Professor and Associate Professor Gu.

3. Classroom teaching

Because there are no basic courses (foreign languages, mathematics, computer languages, etc.). In the first semester, I can't take these courses halfway. 1in the spring of 1994, after the second semester of the regional survey graduate class started, we arranged professional degree courses, such as1∶ 50,000 regional survey norms and management, geology and mapping of three major rock areas, modern geotectonics and geological structure deformation analysis, etc. As these students have all participated in the regional adjustment work of1∶ 50,000, teachers give lectures, ask questions, discuss and summarize, or invite students to introduce the results and working methods of the regional adjustment map of1∶ 50,000, and discuss them, point out the shortcomings and put forward work suggestions, which has achieved good results.

The third and fourth semesters of the first regional graduate class are mainly arranged for classroom study. According to the requirements of the training program, I concentrated on public education compulsory courses, some degree compulsory courses and elective courses. In order to expand students' knowledge, students are required to listen to elective courses as much as possible.

4. Production practice

Field production practice is divided into two teams: Hebei team and Shandong team. The following only describes the situation of Shandong team.

Field practice is the best opportunity for students to integrate theory with practice. Before field practice, we ask students to consult the research methods, research status and existing problems of their major according to their own professional priorities and the opinions of their tutors, and bring reference materials as much as possible. At the beginning of June, 1994, we set out for Shandong for our first production practice. The team consists of 3 teachers, 7 master students and 7 undergraduates (the undergraduate students leave at the end of June). The internship time is ***3 months, and the production task of about 2 drawings is completed. This field work is not only production, but also the process of field discussion, research and experiment of modern geological theory and1∶ 50,000 regional mapping method.

Because most of these graduate students have practical experience in production, they are required to read the previous work results in the field of investigation at the beginning of their internship and discuss them after full field investigation. The topics discussed include: ① the main problems in this area, the ways to solve these problems and the topics that can be used as special research; (2) the principle of work deployment and work arrangement; (3) Working methods and problems that should be paid attention to in different rock areas; ④ Division of surveying and mapping units. Through discussion, everyone has a unified understanding of the division of surveying and mapping units, existing geological problems, solutions and working methods. The process of surveying and mapping is actually the process of learning1∶ 50,000 new geological surveying and mapping methods. Therefore, the surveying and mapping route adopts the method of parallel route crossing, and any stones encountered on the route are surveyed by surveying and mapping method, and then the map is returned to the indoor assembly and connection. If it is difficult to connect the big map, organize relevant surveying and mapping groups to pursue and discuss on the spot collectively, so that the main thing is to unify the understanding and working methods on the spot again and ensure that the whole team adopts the same surveying and mapping unit.

At the end of route mapping in the whole region, all participants are required to read geological sketches, determine special research topics (these topics are not only students' dissertations, but also the special research contents of the project), and divide the work according to their different professional priorities. Everyone designs the research contents and the location and route of field data collection according to their own special topics, which is convenient for the work arrangement of the whole team. In the stage of actual surveying geological profile, all members of the team participated in the actual surveying profile, but in the division of labor, besides ensuring that each student should participate in the profile survey of different rock areas, they should also pay attention to their own research topics, which not only ensures the students' comprehensive study of working methods in different rock areas and the completion of the team's production tasks, but also ensures that they are in place and the papers are fully collected. Before the end of the field trip, ask the students to make a summary. The summary includes two parts: geological structure characteristics of the survey area and special research data. In the special research section, it is required to put forward the contents of indoor research and the next step plan. As a result, students can do some practical work in combination with their own papers in the indoor learning stage.

The second field production practice was in the summer of 1995. Before field work, organize students to read the sketch of measurement results and consult the test results. On the basis of being familiar with the geological structure characteristics of the whole area, students are required to make field work plans. Field work is mainly to arrange students' special research according to their work plans, further collect dissertations and materials, and make necessary careful observation such as route tracking and sampling.

In the later stage of the second field production practice, we invited Professor You Zhendong to give field guidance. On the one hand, please ask Mr. You to review our work in the past three years, especially where the achievements of our predecessors have changed greatly or where we have made great discoveries in our work; On the other hand, please ask Mr. You to explain and guide typical geological phenomena and answer some questions in the mapping method of metamorphic rock area. Participants generally reported that they benefited a lot.

At the end of the second production practice, an important task is to participate in the on-site acceptance of our project. The experts attending the field acceptance meeting of our project include Director of Geology Department of Shandong Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, regional survey management experts, members of regional survey quality supervision team, Director of Science and Technology Department of China Geo University, and Professor Zhao Chonghe, an expert. Experts from Shandong Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources are all experts from Shandong Province, and they have rich experience in mapping method and management of1∶ 50,000 regional survey. Therefore, students are required to participate in the on-site acceptance process as a learning process. Not only accept their quality evaluation, learn their advanced drawing methods, but also can be used as on-site teaching for our foreign teachers. During the meeting, students and teachers listened carefully to the opinions of experts, answered their questions and took the initiative to ask questions, which achieved good results.

5. Thesis and defense

After the second production practice, all the students turned to indoor research and thesis writing. We put forward the following requirements for students: First, ensure the authenticity of the materials used. Whether we use the materials collected by ourselves or those collected by others, we should carefully examine them to ensure that every data and illustration is true. Second, do all kinds of testing and identification, and do what you can, especially the identification of rocks and minerals requires your own observation. Even if there is an appraisal report, you need to check it yourself. Its purpose is to ensure the accuracy and completeness of first-hand information. Third, don't write a report paper on regional geological survey. The regional geological survey report is compiled through comprehensive research and scientific summary on the basis of data collected from field point, line and area surveys. Its strata, rocks, structures, minerals, geological history and other chapters are complete and comprehensive, and different views can be held. The paper asks to demonstrate or discuss a scientific problem and finally draw an appropriate scientific conclusion. Fourth, the paper should be concise, and it would be better if it could be published in scientific journals after appropriate revision. After nearly half a year's hard work, every student has finished a paper.

The defense of master's degree thesis is actually a teaching process. For this course, it is also a process of entrusting the training unit to check and accept the training effect. Therefore, we hired Professor Chen Keqiang, the former director of the Regional Mediation Office of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (the former Regional Mediation Office of the Bureau directly under the Ministry of Geology and Minerals), and Professor Qi and Professor Rige, the then directors, to participate in their defense committee (Professor Chen Keqiang was unable to attend due to an important meeting later). The defense committee is chaired by Professor Wu and Professor Tan Yingjia respectively, and its members include Professor Qiu Jiaxiang, Professor Zhou Junruo and Professor Tan Yingjia. Before the formal defense, the tutor shall preside over it, explain the preparation and matters needing attention of the defense, and conduct a trial defense. During the defense, the students read out the main contents of the paper. When answering the questions raised by the defense Committee and the contestants, they can synthesize all aspects of the questions, quote classics and give reasonable answers. The national defense commission expressed special satisfaction. Finally, they all passed the thesis defense with excellent results.

Fourth, the second enrollment

After the first batch of students graduated, the Education Department of the Ministry of Education and the Administration Bureau were very satisfied and agreed to recruit the second batch (the second session) of regional geological research graduate students. 1996 summer enrollment, all enrollment procedures are the same as the first session. This time, China University of Geology also enrolled 8 students, including 2 from Inner Mongolia Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, 2 from Inner Mongolia Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources 1, Shanxi Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources 1, Shanxi Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources 1, 2 from Shandong Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, and 65,438 from Institute of Geological Sciences of Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences. These eight students are all boys. All of them are undergraduate graduates from the middle and late 1980s to the early 1990s. They have participated in or are engaged in1∶ 50,000 regional geological survey, and some of them have served as project leaders or technical leaders of1∶ 200,000 or1∶ 50,000 regional geological survey, hoping to further study and improve geological theories and methods.

The training scheme and process of the second regional geological research direction are the same as the first one, but the arrangement of production practice and paper writing is different. During the Ninth Five-Year Plan period, China Geo University undertook 8 regional geological surveys of1∶ 50,000, all in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, including 3 in Guyang area and 5 in Duolun area. Most of the students' production internships are arranged in these two teams, and individual students are arranged in the original project of the original unit because they also undertake the task of regional adjustment and come to study halfway. Only one of the students cooperated with the tutor's scientific research project for production practice and thesis writing. Students' dissertations are scattered, and some of them are based on the regional adjustment project undertaken by China Geo University in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The other part of the students' thesis is based on the regional adjustment projects completed or under way by the original unit. After three years of training, they all graduated with excellent or excellent results.

Verb (abbreviation for verb) effective result

After graduating from China Geo University, two master's degrees in regional geological research have played an important role in the regional geological survey industry. For example, a student in Qinghai province was selected by the personnel department of the bureau before graduation, and the geological department of the bureau was responsible for the regional investigation and management of the province. Later, he served as the vice president of the Geological Survey Institute and the director of the Qinghai Institute of Geological Sciences. After graduation, a student from Gansu was transferred to the post of Director of Geology Department of Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources and Chief Engineer of Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources, and later served as Deputy Chief Engineer of Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources. After graduation, two students from Hebei happened to work at the debugging point in the domestic1∶ 250,000 area. Both of them participated in the1∶ 250,000 debugging point project in Chengde area, and one of them was in charge of the project. After graduation, Liaoning students were appointed as the chief engineer of the regional dispatching team of the Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources. 1 student in Shanxi province specializes in regional geological survey project in Geological Survey Institute, and another 1 student participated in the Qinghai-Tibet blank area1∶ 250,000 regional geological survey project, serving as the project leader, with remarkable achievements, and was rated as a model worker in Shanxi province. Later, some students went on to study for doctoral degrees and made greater progress. At present, most students are working in the front line of regional geological survey, making efforts to improve the research level of basic geological survey in China.

The research direction of regional geological survey entrusts others to recruit and train master students, which accumulates a set of methods and experiences for China Geo University to train in-service personnel with high-level academic qualifications, and lays the foundation for recruiting engineering master students in the later period.
