The College of Information Science and Technology has three first-level disciplines: computer science and technology, electronic science and technology and information and communication engineering, among which computer science and technology and electronic science and technology are national first-level key disciplines. There are 9 two disciplines, among which 5 two disciplines are national key disciplines: computer software and theory, computer application technology, physical electronics, microelectronics and solid-state electronics, communication and information system. In the past five years, he has won nine second prizes for national scientific research achievements, completed more than 800 million yuan of scientific research funds from the National Natural Science Foundation, the "973" Project and the "863" Project, published more than 3,400 academic papers and granted more than 350 patents. The college has four undergraduate majors: Computer Science and Technology, Electronic Information Science and Technology, Microelectronics and intelligence science and technology, which are enrolled by the college. The development of information science in Peking University for more than 50 years has witnessed the establishment and development of information science and technology in China. Many firsts in the development of information technology in China were born here: the first million digital computers in China-150, the first large-scale integrated circuit-1024-bit MOS random access memory, the first Chinese character laser phototypesetting system that changed the printing industry, the first multi-channel operating system, the first atomic clock, the first large-scale commercial fingerprint identification system, and the first one. Internationally, it is called Wu Theory, the physical model of cesium-silver oxide cathode photoelectric emission, the world's first spiral titanium oxide nanotube model, the world's first single-walled undoped carbon nanotube, and so on.
Information science and technology not only changed our way of life and work, but also had a great and far-reaching impact on the development of other fields. In order to adapt to the development of higher education and science and technology, to adapt to the development of information science and technology disciplines, to achieve a wider and more organic interdisciplinary, to meet the future social demand for more information and intelligence, and to speed up the pace of building a world-class university, Peking University formally established the Institute of Information Science and Technology in 2002 on the basis of the construction of the former Department of Computer Science and Technology, the Department of Electronics, the Institute of Microelectronics and the Information Science Center.
