There are many things worth remembering in 2020, not only that severe test, but also that our country lost 22 academicians in the past few months this year. Each of these 22 academicians is a leader in their respective fields, and their contributions have been praised by many ordinary people until now. Next, I'd like to introduce the recently deceased Academician Li Jijun of Lanzhou University:

This academician is different from other academicians. He traveled all his life in famous mountains and rivers and plateau basins. His long-term research comes from the modern glaciers on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the Quaternary ancient glaciers and the uplift of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, as well as the influence of East Asian and global changes. His contribution to geology can be said to be numerous, and he has his own unique views on the origin of the Yellow River, the formation of loess and the ancient glaciers on Lushan Mountain in eastern China. It was he who put forward the concept of monsoon triangle and vividly described the spatial model of Quaternary environmental evolution in eastern China.

Academician Li Jijun is the winner. He was awarded the first Zhu Kezhen Field Work Award by China Academy of Sciences, 1 batch of Glacier and Frozen Soil Field Work Award, the second China Excellent Achievement Award in Geographical Sciences, Gansu Model Worker, etc.

Regrettably, this person who was born in Sichuan died in Lanzhou. He studied rigorously all his life, being a teacher and being moral. He left a profound educational thought in his teaching style, which benefited countless students for life. He worked hard to seek truth from doing things and from practice, and trained a batch of talents for the country; He devoted his life to the motherland, showed the mission of the older generation of scientists, and showed us one research achievement after another with his lofty moral character and hometown feelings. The death of Academician Li Jijun is undoubtedly a great loss to Lanzhou University, as well as to the educational and scientific circles in China!
