What it's like to meet a tramp who picks up waste.
I was in a hurry to eat in the morning, so I packed my things and ate while walking on the road. As soon as I threw the packing bag into the dustbin, I saw a tramp with messy hair and a slightly dull expression taking a snakeskin bag into the dustbin to search for cartons and bottles. I just want to write their stories.

Writing this story can't say that Zhengzhou has no temperature. Many cities have shelters. It's just that many people like this kind of life. The mainstream values in society are to find a decent or well-paid job, buy a car, buy a house, get married and have children. In the homeless group. I really didn't think that much. Eat, sleep, pick up garbage and sell it for money. Maybe they just like this simple life.

The first time I met a tramp in Zhengzhou was at the KFC drive-through restaurant on Tongtai Road/Shangdu Road in Zhengzhou. This is a modern building with two sides, and most of the walls are transparent glass. Customers can be clearly seen eating at the dining table from the north gate. Tables and dining chairs are arranged in the lobby on the first floor, and a long row of sofas are placed on the side of the wall on the second floor. Plus there is a bathroom on the second floor. Turn on heating in winter and air conditioning in summer. In summer, an old man often spent the night on the sofa. When you are hungry, eat some leftover hamburgers and chips from other customers. At first, the staff in the restaurant sympathized with the old man. Didn't kick him out. It is estimated that corporate culture also plays a role. The place where the author lived at that time was the self-built private house in the village in the city. In summer, the roof is as hot as a steamer. I often sleep there by bike. So I met the old man several times. The beard and hair are white, and the face is full of wrinkles and weather-beaten. He was in rags, carrying a snakeskin bag and holding an iron can in his hand. The staff will also bring him boiled water. There may also be reports and complaints from customers. It is not easy for the staff to drive people directly. I have to leave the light on the second floor on. I haven't been there since. This is also a place where citizens can rest. There is a socket to charge. I can see some white-collar workers writing a copy here with computers. You can also see some students doing their homework here. There is a bookshelf on the east side of the second floor. Some children will read comics happily here and have a wonderful weekend. There are also companies that choose to have dinner and meetings here. It's just that this is no longer a place for homeless people to stop.

Another place where homeless people gather is around the railway station. Once I took the subway, I saw seven or eight people playing on the ground in the exit aisle of the railway station and subway station. Spread a carton and a quilt below, and cover yourself with a quilt. Under the Zhengxing Street Bridge Tunnel, under the Longhai Road Ermayina Road Tunnel, and at the bus stop sign of Beigang Railway Station, you can also see the figure of tramps. They are generally reluctant to communicate with others. Several times I handed them the finished mineral water bottle and got a few words of thanks, but I couldn't communicate with them much.

Leave the topic of tramp for later. Next, let's talk about waste products. When I was a child, I often saw people collecting waste products in rural streets. First I rode a tricycle, then I rode a tricycle tram. The megaphone shouted to collect waste. They usually collect books, cartons, plastic bottles, beer bottles, iron, aluminum and copper. Some people also accept old mobile phones. There is also a waste station in town. In Zhengzhou, in order to build a civilized city, the waste station in the urban area moved to the suburbs. Such as Dasunzhuang, Jiangchong and Yaoqiao. Some companies have set up smart storage boxes in cities. But it is not easy to popularize. What you see on the streets of Zhengzhou is more trash cans with two storage boxes, one is recyclable and the other is non-recyclable. Tramps are the first to pick up garbage, and sanitation workers are the last to pick up garbage. Because of the garbage in office buildings and hotels, the cleaning staff will pick out the beverage bottles, cartons, foams and metals first. The garbage bins in the community were first chosen by some residents. Especially in resettlement areas and suburbs. Some people over 60 have no income. Earn some living expenses on this. College staff are concentrated, and college students especially like to buy things online, resulting in a large number of outer packaging. In addition, students leave school every year. Especially in May, everything thrown in the dormitory is unwanted.

Now some courier companies recycle cartons and plastic packaging. The recycling effect is not very good. After all, many people depend on it to live.

The biggest worry is that homeless groups will go to extremes. Even if you can find bottles and cartons, you can't find a place to sell them. Some people beg, others steal. Basically, there are volunteer associations in universities in Zhengzhou. The usual services include visiting the elderly in nursing homes, picking up garbage in rivers or parks, teaching in rural areas, large-scale activities, auto shows, order guidance in high-speed railway station and road order guidance. But few people are interested in paying attention to homeless groups. After all, volunteer associations are semi-official and more responsive to calls. Zhengzhou is too short of charitable and caring groups like volunteers.
