Fourth, the pillar specialty of the school

There are four teaching buildings in SUTD, including architecture and sustainable design (ASD), engineering product development (EPD), engineering system and design (ESD) and information system technology and design (ISTD).

1. Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD).

Environmental change, rapid urbanization and the limitation of world resources are challenges faced by modern architects. The fields involved include eco-city architecture, smart city design using big data, advanced design calculation, digital production and so on. ASD students will be exposed to real estate evaluation, finance, environmental research, computer-aided design and construction, and information and parameter model construction. Students will also have many opportunities to deal with global issues such as energy and resources.

Research scope: architecture and sustainable development; Innovative urban design and development; Environmental policy and planning; Parametric design of architecture: narrative, compilation and construction of architecture; Research, development and application of modern architectural technology.

2. Industrial product development (EPD) engineering product development

EPD provides comprehensive and in-depth product design research, and its development goes beyond the boundaries of traditional science. The course combines intermittent scientific and technological research with perfect theoretical design, allowing students to participate in the development of engineering products that meet social needs, explore new scientific breakthroughs, and develop emerging technologies facing the future. Involved in: technical engineering consulting, biomedicine and medical treatment, consumer goods, aerospace system, measurement, automation and robotics, finance and real estate, management consulting, ocean and offshore engineering, national defense system, energy.

Research scope: biomedical engineering, medical devices and medical care; Design theory and science; Innovation and creativity; Electronic and photonic technology; Mechanical system; Energy collection and alternative energy; Materials and nanomaterials; Complex dynamic systems and operations; Image, information communication and digital media; Integrated circuits, sensors and semiconductors; Wireless network and smart grid; Quantum system design.

3. Engineering Systems and Design (ESD)

ESD focuses on the design, analysis, optimization and management of large complex systems. For example, it includes financial services, supply chain and logistics, health care, transportation and aviation, security, energy production and distribution, and so on. The fields involved include a wide range of private and public sector system analysts or project leaders, as well as consulting majors.

Research scope: operation management, economics and public policy, and emphasis on soft skills, including communication, teamwork, entrepreneurship and ethics.

4. Information System Technology and Design (ISTD)

ISTD was established in cooperation with MIT. ISTD integrates the traditional disciplines of computer science, computer engineering and information system, focusing on the system design of interaction with people. The fields involved include software design and development; Telecommunications; Data analysis; Game design; Consultation; Information technology security; Academic, etc.

ISTD core courses:

1, Introduction to Information System & Introduction to Programming Information System and Programming

2. Computational structure

3. The principle of software construction.

4. Introduction to the algorithm.

5. Computer system engineering

6. Introduction to Probability and Statistics

Research scope: digital media research, including language, audio and video processing; Computer vision, computer graphics and computer manufacturing; Man-machine interaction; Machine learning and artificial intelligence; Security of network physical system.
