Art College was established in July, 2004 16. It consists of Music Department, Instrumental Music Department, Vocal Music Department, Dance Department and Art Education Center. Its predecessor was the Art Department of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of South China University of Technology. In 2002, undergraduate students majoring in music performance began to be recruited nationwide. Dance major was added in 2004. There are three undergraduate majors: music performance, dance and musicology. In 2004, he entered the Master of Music, and now he has a master's degree in music and dance. At present, there are 405 undergraduates and 50 postgraduates.
The college has a team of teachers with noble morality, profound artistic attainments and dedication to teaching and educating people. There are 60 faculty members and 49 full-time teachers, including 6 professors, 22 associate professors, 20 lecturers and teaching assistants 1 person. There are 6 doctors and 26 masters. Many teachers have won the Golden Bell Award, Wenhua Award, Silk Road Cultural Contribution Award, Lu Xun Literature and Art Award, Guangdong Excellent Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences and other national, provincial and ministerial awards.
The college has undertaken a number of scientific research projects researched by the National Social Science Fund, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and Guangdong Province. The college invited top experts and scholars from home and abroad to give lectures. At present, eight visiting professors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and abroad (Lang Lang, Zhou Long, Xian Xinyi, Zhuo, Huang Anlun, Donakowski) and seven domestic part-time professors have been hired. The college also pays attention to strengthening academic exchanges with foreign countries, maintains good cooperative relations with foreign universities such as Yale University Conservatory of Music and the University of North Texas Conservatory of Music, and has signed student exchange program agreements with Wesleyan College.
