1923, Chen Heqin took the lead in conducting an all-round research in Nanjing Gulou Kindergarten, the first experimental kindergarten in China, by adopting the experimental method.

Mr. Chen Heqin's kindergarten is not for profit, but for "ideal education". Kindergarten is becoming more and more famous, and the small living room can't hold it. Therefore, Chen Heqin and seven friends who agreed with him set up a board of directors to raise money to buy land. 1925, he built a house next to the house and began to recruit foreign students. In the same year, it officially became Nanjing Gulou Kindergarten, and was designated as "Southeast University Education Experimental Kindergarten"-the first modern kindergarten founded by local educators in China.
