Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, founded in 1956, is one of the first four universities of traditional Chinese medicine in New China. Formerly known as Chengdu College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1995 was renamed Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. After more than 60 years of construction and development, it has become a high-level university of traditional Chinese medicine with distinctive characteristics, with traditional Chinese medicine as the main body and medical and health-related disciplines supporting each other and developing in a coordinated way. Sichuan Provincial People's Government, Ministry of Education and state administration of traditional chinese medicine have jointly established a university, which is a new round of "double first-class" universities in China.

The school covers an area of about 1800 mu, with 19 colleges and 38 undergraduate majors, with more than 26,000 full-time students, including more than 4,800 graduate students.

The school is the first batch of authorized points for doctors and masters of traditional Chinese medicine, and the first batch of pilot units for clinical medical professional degrees (masters and doctors). At present, there are 3 doctoral degree authorization points in first-class disciplines, 29 doctoral degree authorization points in two disciplines, 8 master degree authorization points in first-class disciplines, 63 master degree authorization points in two disciplines and 3 post-doctoral mobile stations.

At present, there are 1 national "double-first-class" construction disciplines (Chinese medicine), 4 national key disciplines (Chinese medicine, acupuncture and tuina, five zang-organs of traditional Chinese medicine and gynecology of traditional Chinese medicine), 2 Sichuan "double-first-class" construction disciplines (Chinese medicine and Chinese medicine), 44 provincial-level key disciplines and 2 ESI global 1% top disciplines.
