The academic direction of the College of Ocean and Earth Sciences takes the environment and resources of the ocean and its adjacent land areas as the general goal, adheres to and develops the characteristics of the combination of ocean and land, ancient and modern, geology and geophysics, geochemistry, observation, experiment and simulation, and explores and develops new ideas, new ways and new methods for quantitative research on the resources and environment of the ocean and its adjacent land areas, making this discipline a base for cultivating high-level talents with the characteristics of combining land and sea and conforming to the forefront of international marine geology, and a base for China Sea and the West. The scientific research work of the college mainly relies on the Key Laboratory of Marine Geology of the Ministry of Education. The laboratory has more than ten sets of large-scale instruments, including XRF core scanner, stable isotope ratio mass spectrometer, environmental scanning electron microscope, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer, gas chromatography-mass spectrometer and geophysical data processing system.

At present, the college undertakes major research projects of the National Natural Science Foundation (Nanhai Deep Project, supported by/kloc-0.80 billion), national "973" and "863", and key projects of the Natural Science Foundation, etc. 1999 The successful implementation of ocean drilling plan 0DP 184 with Academician Wang as the chief scientist has made Tongji University's deep-sea research among the international advanced ranks. From 2065438 to March 2004, the comprehensive ocean discovery plan IODP349, with Professor Li as the chief scientist, was implemented, which promoted the rapid progress of deep-sea research in China.

By the end of 20 1 1 year, there were three * * * 973 projects undertaken by teachers of the College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, namely Professor Wang, Professor Zhi Zhimin and Professor Zhou Huaiyang.

On April 20 1313, Tongji University, together with Xiamen University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Zhejiang University, held the signing ceremony of the "Collaborative Innovation Center for Submarine Observation Science and Engineering" jointly established by the four universities in the Sino-French Center of Tongji University. Vice President of Tongji University, Vice President of Xiamen University Ye, Professor Zhou Meng of Shanghai Jiaotong University and Professor Chen Ying of Zhejiang University signed contracts on behalf of four universities respectively. Academician Wang of Xiamen University and Academician Jiao Nianzhi jointly unveiled the "Collaborative Innovation Center".

On June 13, 18, the first passenger, Professor Zhou Huaiyang of Tongji University, dived in the cold spring area of the South China Sea where the Jiaolong dived on June 17. On this voyage, the Jiaolong dive, Tongji Ocean College was attended by Associate Professor Yang Qunhui and other three people.
