Xiamen University, or XMU for short, is a comprehensive research-oriented national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and the Central Government of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is a national "double-class" A-class world-class university led by the national "20 1 1 Plan" and the national "265438". The school was founded in 1969 by Chen Jiageng, a patriotic overseas Chinese leader. It is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in the history of modern education in China, one of the earliest universities in China to recruit graduate students, and the first university to build an independent campus overseas. Early architecture was selected as one of the national key cultural relics protection units and the first batch of architectural heritages in China in the 20th century, and was praised as "the strongest in the South" and "the most beautiful university in China".

Fuzhou University, short for Duff, was founded in 1958.
