St Petersburg State University of Technology was also called Kalinin Institute of Engineering in 1950s and 1960s. It is a comprehensive university with a long history, the best Russian university of science and engineering, a world-famous university and a counterpart school in Tsinghua University, China. There are exchange students between the two universities. In 1950s, this university trained a large number of scientific and technical experts and leaders for China. Many of these older generation overseas students have also served as academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering, presidents of universities, managers and technical directors of scientific research institutes, and leaders of large enterprises, such as the presidents of Tsinghua University, who have made great contributions to the construction of China. The school's diploma is recognized by all countries in the world, including the United States, Britain and other European and American countries, so many foreign students are studying for master's and doctoral degrees, including domestic graduate students.
1899 St. Petersburg state university of technology was named "Peter the Great Royal Institute of Technology". At present, there are 82 academicians of the Academy of Sciences or the Academy of Engineering, 400 professors, 500 associate professors, more than 800 students and more than 500 foreign students. Today's technical university is the top university among Russian technical universities.

Pre-university:
The Institute of International Education is a preparatory education institute of the National University of Science and Technology, which is open to high school graduates and university graduates (masters and doctors) who have not mastered Russian, as well as students who are going to study in Russian universities. Since 1965, the college has trained tens of thousands of international students from more than 90 countries, who then studied different majors at the Polytechnic University or other universities of their own choice.
IIEP consists of nine teaching departments in three centers. Since 1996, IIEP has moved to a seven-story building in Polytechnic University with complete facilities. There are classrooms, laboratories, libraries, student dormitories and canteens in the building. Generally, two students have a dormitory with kitchen and bathroom (including bathing), each with a bed, a wardrobe and a table. Bedsheets, pillows, quilts and mattresses are provided by the school and replaced every 3-7 days.
The academic year of IIEP begins on September 1st and lasts for eight to ten months. It is divided into two periods: autumn and spring (the duration depends on the arrival time of students in 9- 1 1 month). IIEP helps international students in all aspects of life and study.
There are about ten students in each class, and there are 1400 class hours and ten months of education in the whole preparation period. After the pre-science course, it is not easy but not too difficult for students to pass exams, Russian and other courses. After successfully completing their studies, IIEP issues certificates, by which they can enter technical colleges or other universities.
The Institute of International Education consists of three centers and nine departments, including: Russian Department, Mathematics Department, Computer Department, Physics Department, Chemistry and Biology Department, Social Science and Humanities Department, Biomechanics Department, Linguistics Department, Literature and Culture Department and International Education Management Department.
IIEP attaches great importance to the safety of international students. Even though the environment in St. Petersburg is much safer than that in Moscow, the college still takes into account the characteristics of international students. During the preparatory study, students can have all activities in the building, and there is a full-time doorman at the entrance of the building, and they must be inspected when entering and leaving the building. In addition, since Putin came to power at the end of 1999, the government has attached great importance to social security, and the social security in Russia has been greatly improved.
