Chaohu College is an application-oriented undergraduate college directly under the Anhui Provincial People's Government and directly managed by the Anhui Provincial Department of Education. In 2002, it was upgraded from Chaohu Normal University, which can be traced back to 1977.

There are many famous universities in Hefei, such as China University of Science and Technology, Hefei University of Technology, Anhui University, and some provincial high-level universities. In Hefei, there are currently four public undergraduate courses called "colleges": Hefei College, Hefei Teachers College, Anhui Art College and Chaohu College located in Chaohu City, Hefei. It is reported that the school has been included in the construction of provincial master's degree programs in Anhui Province in 20 19.

This school is the second batch of newly-built undergraduate courses in Anhui Province (upgraded after 1998), but its development speed is not satisfactory. At present, the building area of the school is only 360,000 square meters. As an undergraduate who has been promoted to 18, the hardware environment is really average. In addition, the school has more than 270 teachers with the title of deputy high school or above, which is lower than that of similar universities in Chuzhou College, Suzhou College and Hefei Normal College, and is about 200 worse than that of Hefei College upgraded together in the same year.
