Hangzhou Normal University, formerly known as Zhejiang government-run two-level normal school founded in Guangxu 32, is one of the six earliest normal schools in China, belonging to a college. Hangzhou Normal University is a local comprehensive university characterized by teacher education and art education, with basic disciplines of arts and sciences as the mainstay, emerging applied disciplines developing rapidly, and multidisciplinary coordinated development. It is a key construction university in Zhejiang Province. The school's predecessor can be traced back to 1908, one of the six higher normal schools in China, Zhejiang official secondary normal school. Hangzhou Normal University was founded in 1978. Around 2000, five schools including Hangzhou Institute of Education merged one after another. In 2007, it was renamed Hangzhou Normal University.
