Yunnan University (YNU), located in Kunming, is a national key university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Yunnan Province. It is a national "double-class" university, and has been selected into the 2 1 1 Project, one university in one province, and the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions.
The national first-class universities supported by Yunnan Province mainly focus on building universities, such as "11plan", education and training plan for outstanding legal talents, education and training plan for outstanding engineers, and national postgraduate plan for building high-level universities.
Scholarship institution of China government for overseas students in China and national model universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform are members of the "one province, one school" national key construction university (Z 14) alliance in the central and western regions and the leading unit of the South Asia Southeast Asia University Alliance.
Yunnan University was founded in 1922 as a private Donglu University, 1934 changed its name to provincial Yunnan University, and 1938 changed its name to national Yunnan University. It is one of the earliest comprehensive universities in the western frontier of China.
1946, Encyclopedia Britannica listed Yunnan University as one of the most influential universities in the world in 15. From 65438 to 0958, Yunnan University was placed under the management of Yunnan Province by the Central Ministry of Higher Education. 65438-0978 Yunnan University was identified as one of the 88 key universities in China by the State Council.
1996 was included in the first batch of national "2 1 1 project" key construction universities. 1999, Yunnan University of Political Science and Law merged into Yunnan University. 20 17 became one of the first 42 "world-class universities" in China.
