It is the first information technology university founded by the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. The school is located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
The school was founded in 1956 as Hangzhou Aviation Industry Finance and Economics School, which belongs to military industrial institutions. It is an information technology-led institution of higher learning and was established earlier in China. With the approval of the State Council, Hangzhou Institute of Electronic Technology was established in 1980. In 2004, it was renamed Hangzhou Dianzi University. The school belongs to Fourth Ministry of machinery industry, Ministry of Electronic Industry and Ministry of Information Industry. In 2000, it began to implement the management system of * * * construction and provincial management, and was listed as a key teaching and research university in Zhejiang Province.
