Harvard University, referred to as Harvard, is located in Cambridge, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. It is a top private research university, an Ivy League school, a global forum for university presidents, and a member of the advanced research alliance of global universities.
Harvard University was founded in 1636. It was first founded by the colonial legislature in Massachusetts, and was originally named "New Citizen College". To commemorate the generous support given by Pastor john harvard in the early days of the college, the school was renamed "Harvard College" 1639 in March. 1780, Harvard College was officially renamed as "Harvard University".
Harvard University consists of ten colleges and an advanced research institute. The school is also responsible for the management and operation of Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital. 1636, 10, 10 On October 28th, the colonial council of Massachusetts Bay passed a resolution and decided to establish an institution of higher learning, modeled after Cambridge University in England, with an annual appropriation of 400 pounds. Originally named "New College" or "Newton College", this school became the first higher education institution in the United States.
