Southwest University of Political Science and Law is located in Chongqing, a famous historical and cultural city and the only municipality directly under the central government in the central and western regions. It is the earliest institution of higher learning in politics and law in New China. After the reform and opening-up, the Ministry of Education and Chongqing Municipal People's Government jointly established the first batch of national key universities, the first batch of national excellent legal talents education and training bases, the training institutions entrusted by the China Municipal Government for overseas students' scholarships, and the engineering university for basic capacity building in the central and western universities.
