Beijing University of Chinese Medicine was founded in 1956, formerly known as Beijing College of Chinese Medicine, and is the earliest institution of higher learning of Chinese medicine approved by the State Council. 1960, the school was identified as a national key university by the central government; 197 1, the school merged with Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
