The three enrollment majors of Nanyang Technological University include computer science and technology, mechanical design and manufacture and automation, food science and engineering, mechanical design and manufacture and automation, electronic information engineering, civil engineering, traditional Chinese medicine, automobile service engineering and communication engineering.

Nanyang Institute of Technology, referred to as "Nanyang Institute of Technology" for short, is a full-time undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education. It has been selected as the national "Hundred Schools Project" training institution, the pilot school of the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education, and the first batch of "New Engineering Research and Practice Projects" in China.

The school's predecessor was Nanyang University founded by 1987; 1993 was officially approved by the State Education Commission and named Nanyang Institute of Technology. Former Zhang Zhongjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine merged. In 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college and implemented a school-running system based on provinces and cities.
