Southwest Petroleum University (SWPU) is located in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, and consists of the Ministry of Education, Sichuan and China Petroleum and Natural Gas Corporation and sinopec group.
Established by China Offshore Oil Group Co., Ltd.; It is the first batch of world-class discipline construction universities in China, and it has been selected into the basic capacity construction project of central and western universities, the national "11plan" and the national "key discipline project with characteristics" to build universities.
The country has built a high-level postgraduate program, a national demonstration base for training innovative talents, a national innovation and entrepreneurship base for practical education in colleges and universities, a scholarship receiving institution for overseas students from China government, and the first batch of demonstration universities in China to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education. They are members of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle University Alliance and the Sino-Russian "Yangtze River-Volga River" University Alliance.
Historical evolution:
1958, Sichuan Petroleum Institute was established in Nanchong, Sichuan Province, under the former Ministry of Petroleum Industry. 1970, renamed Southwest Petroleum Institute; In 2000, the universities affiliated to China Petroleum and Natural Gas Corporation were transformed into ordinary universities jointly established by the central and local governments and mainly managed by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government.
In 2002, the main body of the school moved to Xindu District, Chengdu; In 2004, Sichuan University of Political Science and Law merged; In 2005, the school was renamed Southwest Petroleum University.
