Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University was built in 1956, formerly known as Zhongnan cadre sanatorium. 1956 was handed over to Hubei Medical College and named as the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hubei Medical College. 1993, Hubei Medical College was renamed Hubei Medical University, and the hospital was renamed the Second Affiliated Hospital/Second Clinical College of Hubei Medical University. On August 2, 2000, the former Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Water Resources and Electric Power, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping and Hubei Medical University jointly established the new Wuhan University. The hospital was renamed as Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University/Second Clinical College of Wuhan University.
