The Faculty of Science has a strong faculty and a reasonable structure. By the end of 2005, there were more than 300 faculty members, including 286 teachers, including academicians of China Academy of Sciences 1 1, professors or researchers 154, associate professors or associate researchers 102, and doctoral supervisors 127. More than half of the teachers are young scholars with doctorates. They undertake the teaching of basic courses of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology for the whole school students and the task of cultivating talents for the teaching of specialized courses in their departments. At the same time, they also undertake a large number of scientific research tasks of the National Natural Science Foundation, the national key basic research and development plan, the national high-tech plan, the national key research projects, the central ministries and commissions, provinces and cities across the country and international cooperation. Every year, hundreds of academic papers are published, more than ten professional translations are made, and dozens of scientific and technological patents and teaching and research achievement awards are won.
