Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, as the only art college in Central China, has a history of 100 years. The school's predecessor was Wuchang Fine Arts School, which was founded by Jiang Lanpu, Tang Yijing and Xu Ziyan at 1920. 1923, a professional undergraduate course was added, and the school was renamed Wuchang Academy of Fine Arts.
1930 added music and changed its name to private Wuchang Art College (referred to as Wuchang Art College). 1938 school was destroyed by Japanese bombing and moved to the west. After several twists and turns in Yidu Gubei and Shengquan Temple in Jiangjin, Sichuan, it chose Deganba 53 ladder in Jiangjin, Sichuan, and insisted on running the school. 1945 Demobilized and returned to Han after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.
Wuchang Art College 1949 was taken over by Zhongyuan University. After that, he passed the College of Literature and Art of Zhongyuan University, Zhongnan College of Literature and Art, Zhongnan College of Fine Arts, Hubei Institute of Education, and Huazhong Normal University, and 1958 continued to the Fine Arts Department of Hubei Institute of Art. 1985, with the approval of the Hubei Provincial People's Government and the approval of the State Education Commission, Hubei Academy of Fine Arts was established independently.

The school has 15 undergraduate teaching units, 25 undergraduate majors and 34 general directions, covering eight categories: art, design, art theory, drama, film and television, education, business administration, machinery and architecture, forming a discipline layout with art as the main discipline and education, engineering and management disciplines supporting each other.
The master's degree authorization points of the three first-level disciplines of fine arts, design and art theory are all key disciplines in Hubei Province. In 2005, with the approval of the State Council Academic Degree Office, our school established the Master of Arts (MFA) degree, which was one of the first 32 universities in China to establish this professional degree.
