Shanghai Sport University, referred to as "Shangti" for short, is an ordinary physical education college managed by the State Sports General Administration and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the first batch of world-class discipline construction colleges in China, and the pilot construction unit of high-level local colleges and universities in Shanghai.
Shanghai Institute of Physical Education was established in June of 1952 1 1, formerly known as East China Institute of Physical Education, and was formed by the physical education departments of Nanjing University, Jinling Women's University and East China Normal University. 1956 was renamed as Shanghai Institute of Physical Education. The school is directly under the State Sports General Administration. In June, 20001,it became a full-time college sponsored by the State Sports General Administration and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government.
