The school was founded in 1955, formerly known as Xi 'an Aviation Industry School, and was affiliated to the former Ministry of Aviation Industry. 1957 merged with Lanzhou Aviation Industry School. 1960 was upgraded to a junior college and renamed Xi' an Institute of Aviation Industry, which was later restored due to national economic adjustment.
1985 was upgraded to Xi' an institute of aviation technology with the approval of the former state education commission, and 1993 was renamed Xi' an institute of aviation technology. 1999 was placed under the local government, under the people's government of Shaanxi Province, and built institutions for the central and local governments.
In 20 12, it was upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education and renamed Xi 'an Aviation College. Since its establishment more than 60 years ago, the school has always focused on the fundamental task of educating people with moral education, adhered to the talent training orientation of cultivating high-quality applied talents and the service orientation of "based in Shaanxi, serving aviation, facing the west and radiating the whole country", and trained more than 70,000 applied professionals for China's aviation industry construction and local economic and social development.
