Dongguan, referred to as "Dongguan" for short, is a prefecture-level city and megacity under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, and the central city on the east coast of the Pearl River Delta as determined by the State Council. By the end of 2022, Dongguan had 4 streets and 28 towns with a total area of 2,542.67 square kilometers. By the end of 2022, the resident population of Dongguan was1043700, including 9628654.38+000, and the urbanization rate was 92.25%.

Dongguan is located in the south of China, south-central Guangdong Province, east of the Pearl River Estuary, adjacent to Guangzhou in the northwest, Shenzhen in the south and Huizhou in the northeast. It belongs to subtropical monsoon climate, with no long summer and abundant rainfall.

Dongguan is one of the central cities of the Pearl River Delta, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen metropolitan area, the first of the "Four Little Tigers in Guangdong", known as the "world factory", an important transportation hub and foreign trade port in Guangdong, and one of the four prefecture-level cities without districts in China.

The main rivers in Dongguan are Dongjiang, Shima and Hanshui. 96% of the city's territory belongs to the Dongjiang River Basin. After entering from Huicheng District and Boluo County of Huizhou City in the northeast corner, the main stream of Dongjiang River runs from east to west along the northern border to Xinkai Estuary of Qiaotou Town. There are Shima River, which originated in Baoan District, Shenzhen, and Qishi River, which flows into Qishi Town.

After branching in Shilong Town, the main stream of Dongjiang River flows to Shitan, joins with the tributaries from Zengcheng, passes through Shijie Town, Gaobu Town, Tang Zhong Town and Sheng Da Village in Mayong, and flows into Shiziyang.

The tributary of the south of the Yangtze River leans to the southwest, and the Xiakou community accepts the cold current from the central part of the city. Below the Xiakou, there are three smaller tributaries, Niushanshui, Gedishui and Xiaosha River, which converge from east to west and flow into Shijie Town, Guancheng Street, Daojiao Town, houjie town and shatian town respectively, and then into the Lion Ocean. The river network area of Dongjiang Delta lies between the main stream of Dongjiang River and its south tributaries.

The zonal forest vegetation in Dongguan is a South Asian monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest, which is diverse and tropical. It is mainly composed of FAGACEAE, Lauraceae, Theaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Myrtaceae, Elaeagnus, Platanus and so on.
