I met a senior who went to Tsinghua to do interdisciplinary research and joined three societies, one was an art troupe (symphony orchestra), the other was a public welfare society and the other was an academic society. I am still a professional. I sent three papers in the first three years, but I still took the postgraduate exam.
In my own words, I only added 1 clubs in my freshman year, such as liberal arts. At that time, the academic performance was still relatively poor, which was attributed to the long time of club activities (as if it would delay 8 hours a week).
In the second year of high school, I finally stopped learning advanced mathematics, and the specialized courses gradually began to understand. After several defenses, I found that my oral expression ability was poor because I seldom spoke, so I joined a language club (there is a club in our school called "Speech Exchange Association", which should be called by all schools) and became a small secretary. At that time, I was already the head of the voice department in the art troupe. The two clubs were really busy and the time would conflict. However, in the end, the academic performance has actually improved by dozens.
Community activities are very necessary.
Your circle of friends is wider, you can get close to outstanding people in various professions and learn from them;
Art clubs can further develop your hobbies; Academic societies can help you strengthen your understanding of professional knowledge; Non-academic associations can help you improve your oral expression, interpersonal communication, organization and coordination skills. Each kind of association has different functions, so you should make a good choice.
If you have made achievements in the club, you can add points in the awards at the end of the school year. If you apply for graduate students in the future, you can also enrich your resume with club activities.
Of course, you can't have your cake and eat it. In order not to delay my study, I have to get up early every day to review in the classroom, wait until the study room closes at night before going back to the dormitory, and I won't go out with my roommates on weekends. Of course, the seniors studying in Tsinghua work harder than me. For freshmen who have just entered the school, if they are very entangled, you can try to join a club first. After all, they may not adapt to the change of learning style when they first go to college. In any case, we should put learning first!
A club is recruited, you can't just say you are interested and join all of them. Otherwise, you will regret it if the activity starts.
Club, really recommended.
Because, there are people who share your interests. We can discuss problems together and learn from each other.
