Northeastern University is a high-level research-oriented national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is located in Shenyang, the central city of Northeast China, and has a branch in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, which is jointly established by the Ministry of Education, Liaoning Province and Shenyang City. It is a world-class university.

The first batch of "21/project" and "985 project" key universities in China were selected into 201/plan,1plan, excellent engineer education and training plan, national new engineering research and practice project, and national construction of high-level universities.

As a member of the 2 1 century academic alliance and the Sino-Russian comprehensive university alliance, it is one of the first batch of doctoral, master's and bachelor's degree awarding units in China, one of the first batch of 32 universities with graduate schools in China, and one of the 34 universities with independent postgraduate enrollment in China.
